Sugar Shocker Museum

Here at the Middle School on Location, Nurse Witt and Ms.Arcieri created a Sugar Shocker Museum to help students understand the impact of sugar on our bodies in a fun and educational way.

The museum features interactive displays that show how excessive sugar consumption can impact our bodies. Common snack wrappers have been collected and the amount of sugar has been measured for each item.

This engaging experience has encouraged students to make more healthy choices. Excessive sugar consumption can have negative impacts on our health. Students were able to learn more about labels and ingredients. Our hope is that the "Sugar Shocker" museum will help students choose healthier options such as protein, fruits, vegetables, grains and dairy. Come see Nurse Witt for all of your sugar questions!

We are excited to share about the Wordplay Fashion Show that celebrates our students' completion of Module 2 in our Wit and Wisdom curriculum! This creative event allowed students to demonstrate their understanding of figurative language, idioms, and wordplay in a fun and memorable way.

Many 5th-grade students and staff participating in this event brought their creativity and smiles to the runway. Participants of our word play fashion show were supported by parents and classmates as they walked down the red carpet.

Thank you to our “Queen Bee” Ms. Isabella for creating this event and sharing the fun of learning with our community. The audience members proudly guessed what idiom or play on words each student/staff member was dressed up as. Thanks to all who participated and made this event even more memorable.

"Coming up for Air"

At the end of February, SHR 8th grade students participated in a presentation called “Coming Up For Air” where the focus was to discuss mental health issues and signs of suicide. The session was facilitated by Tricia Baker from Attitudes in Reverse (AIRS).

South Hunterdon has partnered with this organization over the last several years for our Therapy Dog Program. All of our counselors also participated in the program this morning and are available for any students who may need additional support.

This program was free as it was funded by a grant that AIRS received from Northfield Bank. It aligns with our Strategic Plan goal #3 Health and Wellness for Students and Staff.
