The South Hunterdon Girls on the Run Team had students in grades 3-5 from both the South Hunterdon Regional Elementary School and the Middle School on Location. Our coaching staff was four teachers throughout the district - Taylor LaBau, Lynnsley Jameson, Amanda McPherson and Victoria Marley. We held practices at the MSOL weekly.
Girls on the Run inspires individuals of all abilities to discover, build, and grow their self-confidence. Together, they experience a sense of belonging and connection as a team. Volunteer coaches facilitate lessons that blend physical activity with life skill development, including managing emotions, fostering friendships, and expressing empathy. At the end of the season, the team completes a Community Impact Project and a 5K together, which provides a tangible sense of accomplishment and sets a confident mindset into motion.
We held our practice 5k on the track at South on May 27th where the girls, their families, teachers and administration came out to participate on the track. Our 5k was at Mercer County Community College on Sunday June 1st. One of our girls, Nazareth, was chosen to sing the National Anthem. |

At the end of each school year, we celebrate Safety Patrol by providing a field trip to thank them for all their hard work and dedication. They are the leaders of our school and provide safety for all staff and students throughout the year! This year, we brought our 6th-grade Safety Patrol to Nex Level Ninja in Flemington. The students had a great time testing out different Nex Level Ninja obstacles and courses. They also played different games like “The Floor is Lava” and Gaga ball. Thank you, 6th Grade Safeties!

Congrats to Cindy Zidzik and Yvonne Penna, who were honored at the 2025 Hunterdon County Educator of the Year Luncheon. We caught up with Ms. Zidzik and Ms. Penna to learn more about their teaching philosophies.
Educator of the Year, Cindy Zidzik, shared the following:
I’m deeply honored to be named Teacher of the Year. This recognition means so much to me, and I’m truly grateful. More than anything, it reflects the amazing students I have the privilege of working with each day. Their diverse backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives enrich our classroom, and I continue to learn as much from them as they do from me.
Every day in our school brings new challenges, fresh insights, and meaningful opportunities to grow together. I feel incredibly fortunate to be part of such a warm, close-knit community where learning is personal, engaging, and truly collaborative.
Thank you to everyone—students, colleagues, families, and friends—who has supported me throughout this journey. This honor is not mine alone; it belongs to all of us. Here's to continued growth and shared success in the years ahead.

Educational Service Professional of the Year, Yvonne Penna, participated in a Q & A:
Q: What is the most important thing you hope students learn from you? YP: I hope that students feel my care and trust, and learn how to be positive, kind and respectful towards each other. I also hope that they discover the joy in learning and understand that it’s okay to make mistakes because we all learn from them and use these experiences to build self-confidence, becoming more resilient and independent while working through challenges.
Q: What continues to inspire or motivate you as a paraprofessional? YP: It is truly amazing to see students make a remarkable transformation as they develop their knowledge and skills from the start to the end of the school year. It is incredibly inspiring to be a part of their learning journey, showing me that they can absolutely reach their full potential and become their best selves.

Q: What makes South Hunterdon a special place to work? YP: So many things make South Hunterdon special. Among them is the supportive and collaborative culture fostered by the administrators, colleagues and staff. I am fortunate to work with such a dedicated group of professionals who are excellent mentors and invaluable resources. Beyond that, the powerful sense of community connecting the schools, students, and their families in this district is also exceptional. This community truly understands that "it takes a village" and it shows with their remarkable dedication to education.
As the year comes to a close, the 5th and 6th grades participated in their first and last Field Day at the Middle School on location. Students enjoyed a fun filled day of relays, water events, teacher relay, kickball game and an end of day spray down from the West Amwell Fire Department. Thank you to the PTO, teacher and staff for helping make Field Day such a success. See you all next year!

What an incredible day we had at our Preschool Fun Day! The school was buzzing with excitement as our little learners explored a full lineup of engaging, hands-on activities that brought joy, creativity, movement, and plenty of laughter.
Students participated in a cooking activity, various arts and craft projects, explored sensory tables, played different gym related games, did a yoga cool down and of course... ran through our inflatable obstacle course!
It was a perfect blend of play, creativity, and learning — a joyful reminder of all the ways our preschoolers grow through hands-on experiences. Thank you to our amazing staff and parent volunteers who helped make this day such a success!
