Cool Cardboard Construction with Ms. Lucchetto

Ms. Lucchetto's Middle School STEM class has been learning about the Design Thinking Process, and creating three-dimensional objects, out of cardboard, that will move. Through this process, students are learning:

  • How research plays a role in designing and implementation
  • Different cardboard construction techniques
  • The definition of a support and why they are used in construction to build
  • How we can use different mechanisms for specific gestures or motions in cardboard construction
  • The reinforcement of many mathematical concepts, including: measuring, adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing, congruency, symmetry, area, perimeter, and circumference.

Underground Spirit Week

SHRMS kicked off the Thanksgiving break with a fun twist by hosting an “Underground Spirit Week” just for staff.

Each day featured a secret theme, and students had a great time trying to guess what it was. The week included standout days such as All Denim Day, where staff showed up in head-to-toe jean outfits, and a Blackout Day, where everyone came dressed in all black. Staff even had a day where they could dress like students, adding extra laughter and surprise to the halls.

The mystery themes added excitement and brought the school community together, making the days leading up to break both memorable and full of school spirit.

String Quartet Performance

The Erinys Quartet stopped by to perform and the event was organized in collaboration with the Delaware Valley Music Club and member Barbara Hencheck. The Erinys Quartet is part of the greater Philadelphia Chamber Music Society and performs both locally and internationally. Today, they performed traditional works by Debussy and Beethoven, as well as a modern piece titled Carrot Revolution by Gabriella Smith.

6th and 7th grade band and chorus students attended this assembly and were able to ask various questions about their backgrounds as professional musicians, as well as about the instruments and music they were playing.

Red Ribbon Week

Students celebrated Red Ribbon Week by coming together to promote healthy, drug-free lifestyles. They learned about the importance of making positive choices, building strong habits, and staying committed to their well-being. As part of the celebration, students signed a pledge to be drug free, proudly wore red, and tied a knot with a red ribbon as a symbol of their promise to make safe, healthy decisions.

To wrap up the week, the school was filled with excitement—because when everyone ties a red ribbon, it’s more than a pledge; it’s a powerful reminder that the whole community is pulling together for a healthy, drug-free future.
