Middle School Sports

The Middle School Boys and Girls Basketball teams are having a strong season, competing with energy and working together each game. Both teams continue to demonstrate effort, teamwork, and pride in representing their school. We encourage families and students to check the schedule and support them in their remaining games this season!

Wrestling

Congratulations to Channing Smith, who wrestled in the State Qualifier wrestling tournament on January 11th in Toms River. He took second place, which qualifies him for the USAW-NJ Scholastic State Championships in March. Great job and good luck, Channing!

Testing

Students finished a long week of testing by showing focus, effort, and determination. They worked hard each day and stayed positive, even when the week felt challenging. We are proud of them for pushing through and giving their best effort. Thank you staff and students for positive and making testing so seamless. Job well done Eagles.

Fun Friday

Students worked hard and stayed focused to complete their i-Ready lessons and assessments so they could earn participation in Fun Friday. They showed responsibility and determination by completing lessons. Their commitment to finishing i-Ready paid off, allowing them to enjoy some friendly competition in an interactive game! Let’s see what next week brings. Students enjoy watching or participating in the various games. Many students also enjoy listening the music and busting out some moves when cheering on their classes. This week's favorite was Y.M.C.A.

Interview with Miss Prusina

Our school counselor intern has been a wonderful addition to our school community. Miss Prusina is a student at TCNJ. She will be shadowing Mrs. Fenimore. She has brought a positive attitude, a caring presence, and a strong commitment to supporting students. Throughout her internship, she has been working closely with students and staff, learning how to help with problem-solving, emotional support, and building strong relationships. We are grateful for her hard work, dedication, and enthusiasm, and we appreciate the positive impact she has already made in our school. Ms. Pursina will also be working with elementary students alongside Mrs.Cortina. We recently caught up with Miss Prusina to learn more about her experience.

Q: What made you want to become a school counselor?

A: I enjoy helping others and consider myself a strong and empathetic listener. I am committed to showing up for students and supporting them through academic challenges, conflicts and any personal concerns.

Q: If you could give students one piece of advice for getting through the school year, what would it be?

A: "A bad day is just 24 hours and tomorrow brings a new chance to try again.” This quote can be helpful for students to recognize that obstacles are not always forever and there is always light at the end of the tunnel if you just keep trying.

Q: What's your favorite fidget ?

A:
I love something squishy like Mrs.Fenimore's Bread fidgets.

Q: What has been the most interesting part of your internship so far?

A: One of the most interesting parts of my internship has been observing the positive school culture here at SHRMS. The staff is welcoming and supportive and I enjoy seeing the students advocate for themselves and become more aware of their mental health.

Q: What’s a fun fact about you that students might not know?

A:
I was adopted at 18 months from Russia and have a twin brother. We are fraternal twins. Our zodiac sign is Cancer.
