Random Acts of Kindness Week

We ended Random Acts of Kindness Week by celebrating with our high school peer leaders during our Great Kindness Cereal Box Challenge. Students generously donated nearly 125 boxes of cereal and took time to reflect on and share what kindness means to them. All of the cereal boxes will be donated to our local food pantry to support families in need. Our high school peer leaders also created a special video to model acts of kindness for our middle school Eagles.

To make the celebration even more exciting, Swoop the Eagle made a special appearance and helped kick off our cereal box domino, reminding everyone how one small act of kindness can create a powerful ripple effect. Students also celebrated with a spirit week where each day represented a different Focus of spreading kindness.

Thank you Mrs. Carril for creating a hallway display where students can spread kind messages. Let's continue to spread kindness each and every day!

100th Day of School

Our school celebrated the 100th day of school with our glowing theme, 100 Days Brighter! Staff and students filled the hallways with neon and bright colors, creating a fun and vibrant atmosphere. It was exciting to see everyone show their school spirit while celebrating this important milestone. The day served as a reminder that we are not only brighter in our neon attire, but also brighter in our knowledge, growth, and the connections we’ve built over the past 100 days. It was a fun and memorable way to celebrate how far we’ve come this school year! THANKS TO OUR AMAZING PTO, for donating glasses and glow sticks to help up shine bright!

8th Grade Scheduling

Our 8th grade students recently began planning for their transition to high school by working closely with Mr. Pederson and Mrs. Keck to build their schedules. During this time, students reviewed their academic recommendations, explored course options, and learned more about the opportunities that await them next year. This process helped students take an active role in their future, ask important questions, and make informed decisions about their academic path. It was an exciting and important step as they prepare for the move to high school. Thank Mr. Pederson and Mrs. Keck for coming to visit and inspire our 8th grade eagles!

7th & 8th Grade Dance

Our 7th and 8th grade students had a magical evening at this year’s Winter Wonderland Dance! There were twinkling lights, winter decorations, and lots of school spirit. Students enjoyed dancing with friends, singing along to their favorite songs, and making lasting memories together. It was wonderful to see so many smiles and such great energy throughout the night. Thank you to everyone who helped make this special event such a success and a night our students will always remember!

Praise Referrals

We are excited to share that we recently celebrated our first Praise Referrals at school. Praise Referrals are intended to recognize and celebrate the many positive moments we see every day—outstanding behavior, student achievement, personal growth, effort, leadership, kindness, and other positive interactions students demonstrate throughout the school day.

These referrals allow us to intentionally highlight and reinforce the positive choices our students are making and to share those moments of success with families. We look forward to continuing to recognize and celebrate our students for their hard work and positive contributions to our school community.

Celebrating Cultures: Traditions around the World

Chinese New Year: Chinese New Year is a festive holiday celebrated by people around the world to mark the beginning of the lunar new year. It is a time for family gatherings, special meals, and traditions that bring luck, happiness, and a fresh start for the year ahead. Many communities also celebrate with decorations, dragon dances, and other cultural customs.

We were excited to have Ian, one of our 6th grade students, share some of his favorite parts of celebrating Chinese New Year. He talked about spending time with his family, enjoying traditional foods, and the special traditions that make the holiday meaningful to him. He shared that this year is the year of the horse. Ian mentioned enjoying all of the red lantern decorations and more. It was a wonderful opportunity for our school community to learn from Ian and appreciate the diverse cultures and traditions that make our school so special.

Ramadan: Ramadan is an important holiday celebrated by many people around the world. It is a time centered on faith, reflection, gratitude, and community. Families and friends often gather, spend time together, and focus on helping others and showing kindness.

We were fortunate to have Iqra, one of our 6th grade students, share some of her favorite parts of celebrating Ramadan. She spoke about enjoying iftar with her family, attending special prayers, and the importance of giving to those in need. It was wonderful for our school community to learn from Iqra and celebrate the diversity and traditions that make our school so special.

Twist & Shout for Good Grades

5th through 8th grade students who earned all A’s and B’s on their second marking period report cards were recognized with a pretzel treat to celebrate their hard work, and academic achievement. Keep up the great work! Go Eagles!

South Hunterdon Middle School celebrated students who achieved their I-Ready Stretch Goals during our “Smart Cookie” Celebration. I-Ready is an adaptive diagnostic and instructional program in reading and mathematics that monitors student progress throughout the year while delivering targeted, individualized instruction.

Each student is assigned a personalized Stretch Goal following their diagnostic assessment. These goals are ambitious yet attainable, designed to accelerate academic growth beyond expected benchmarks. Students who met their goals were presented with certificates in recognition of their achievement. In keeping with the spirit of the event, they also enjoyed cookies and milk, generously provided by the SHRSD PTO.

Adding to the excitement, i-Ready’s mascot, Snargg, joined the celebration to help acknowledge and encourage our students’ success. We extend our sincere congratulations to all of our Smart Cookie recipients for their hard work and accomplishment.
