Fun with Agriculture

Middle School Field Trip to the High School: Our 8th grade agriculture students and a handful of our 7th graders took a mini-trip up to the High School for a day of soil science activities. Senior Aleks Kucowski chose to do a "Teach Ag" final project and coordinated a 1 hour workshop that included a variety of activities to help students get a hands-on understanding of our lessons on soil.

Watershed Institute: Our middle school agriculture students and our high school environmental club students had the opportunity to visit The Watershed Institute for field trips thanks to grant funding provided by Veolia water company. Our middle schoolers had a fun-filled day learning about pollinators and exploring the wooded pathways looking for signs of other critters, and our high school students did some hands-on science by testing the water quality and collecting/identifying macroinvertebrates in the creek. Both days were a lot of fun and a great example of learning by doing!

NJ FFA State Convention:

Last week we attended the 97th annual NJ FFA State Convention at Monmouth University. This year's theme was "Connected with Purpose" and students had the opportunity to participate in service events, leadership workshops, and to spectate competitions. Junior Lauren Zuniga received her very own FFA jacket through the Blue Jackets, Bright Futures program, senior Ian Harbison competed in the Teach Ag event and took home the third place award, and we had two students submit pieces for the artwork and photography competition. We look forward to more students competing next year!

The Middle School Art and STEM Show was a huge success, bringing together students, families, and staff for an evening full of creativity and fun. This year’s exciting carnival theme was showcased through special carnival-inspired artwork, alongside a variety of additional artwork and projects students created throughout the school year. Guests also enjoyed cotton candy and popcorn, which added to the festive atmosphere.

In the gym, STEM classes showcased interactive games designed and built by students with the help of STEM teacher, Laura Lucchetto. It was wonderful to see so many students walking around with their parents, proudly showing off all of their hard work and creativity.

"I am immensely proud of the dedication, imagination, and talent our students have demonstrated this year. Thank you to everyone who helped make this event such a memorable celebration of learning and creativity!" Art teacher Ms. Zoe Carril said.

Special thank you to Ms. Carril and Ms. Lucchetto for creating a wonderful community event while also creating memories and a portfolio of work for their students. Great job, everyone!
